Jeffrey Pellegrino provided an overview of the “Whole House” toward the end of the lunch hour and encouraged participants to share examples of “doors and windows” within the house (departments or groups with which we interact). He then challenged the groups to apply the “doors and windows” to their situations in order to solve a problem relevant to their area or the “Whole House.”

My group discussed the Higher Education Administration program and the need for additional support for students who aspire to become faculty. Potential “doors and windows” included the Graduate Student Senate and the Professional Development Center. In addition, the group discussed the need for the FPDC to have more of a presence in the Higher Education Administration program.
There was also discussion of connecting the Kent State Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement (OEECE) to similar offices at Mount Union (e.g. Service Learning), Hiram, Malone, and Walsh. The group attempted to brainstorm ideas for a common meeting place between all four institutions; however, no solution was reached. (The town of Atwater came to my mind after the session).
